Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026.

HexDrop (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is a macOS menu bar app for picking, managing, and copying colors from your screen. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights. Use the table of contents to jump to any section.

Section 1

Information we collect

HexDrop is designed to collect as little information as possible.

Personal information

HexDrop does not collect, store, or transmit personally identifiable information such as:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Location data
  • Contacts

Color data

  • Colors you pick (HEX, RGB, etc.) are stored locally on your device only.
  • This data is never transmitted to any server by the app.

Screen access and picking

HexDrop is designed so everyday color picking uses macOS’s built-in color sampler and does not rely on Screen Recording, Accessibility, or Input Monitoring for that workflow or for global shortcuts.

Important:

  • Colors you pick are handled on your device; the app does not upload your color history to our servers.
  • We do not record or transmit your screen as video for picking.

If a future macOS version or system dialog mentions HexDrop alongside other privacy categories, what you see in System Settings is authoritative for that release.

Analytics

HexDrop does not use analytics, tracking tools, or third-party SDKs.

Section 2

How we use information

Since HexDrop does not collect personal data, the only data usage is:

  • Storing your selected colors locally for your convenience
  • Enabling app features such as history and quick copying
Section 3

Data storage

All data generated by HexDrop:

  • Is stored locally on your device
  • Is never uploaded to external servers by the app
  • Can be cleared by uninstalling the app or resetting its data
Section 4

Third-party services

HexDrop does not integrate with any third-party services.

HexDrop marketing site (hexdrop.app)

The HexDrop marketing site is delivered through a content delivery network (Cloudflare). To send you to the right regional Mac App Store listing, Cloudflare may attach an approximate country code (derived from your IP address) to the HTML page your browser receives. We do not use that code to build a profile of you, and we do not store it on our own servers for that purpose.

Section 5

Data sharing

We do not sell, share, or disclose any data because we do not collect user data in the first place.

Section 6

Security

Because HexDrop operates locally and does not transmit your color data to our servers, your information remains under your control on your Mac.

Section 7

Children’s privacy

HexDrop does not knowingly collect any data from children under the age of 13.

Section 8

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.

Section 9

Section 10
